Pickleball

Come ‘dink’ with us at Matthews Hall! Pickleball is for all ages and no previous experience is needed! All equipment is provided and with assistance on hand.

Topsham now has its very own Pickleball Club run by the Topsham Community Association, hosted in Matthews Hall at the heart of Topsham.
Since we started in September 2024, Topsham Pickleball club already has already welcomed over 50 players, and has been tasked with introducing one of the fastest growing sports in the UK to the lovely people of Topsham.

What is Pickleball

Essentially it’s a mash-up of ping-pong, tennis and badminton that is attracting people of all ages. You can play with your partner, friends, kids, your neighbour, and members of your local community.

What do we offer

Whilst it’s a game where you can just jump in and start playing, if you haven’t played before we can familiarise you with the rules, teach you how to serve, introduce to the “kitchen”, the “dink” and the scoring as well as introducing you to others who want to play when you are also free. Whilst the hardest part is keeping score and ‘staying out of the kitchen (which is the non-volley zone) but it doesn’t take long before you get the hang of it!

Club sessions

We are offering introductory sessions for only £4 on a Monday evening – booking required! Some sessions will be coached (extra cost) but these sessions are about introducing you to the sport and improving your skills, with drills, matches and helping to build confidence in a fun and friendly environment.

Additional Sessions

Additional sessions will then be available throughout the week (initially Saturday or Sunday), then the rest of the week, with sessions posted on social media and through our emerging whatsapp community channel.
How to get involved: We are currently developing a system to book courts and find others to play with (usually it is played as doubles) – so all you have to do is turn up and play – watch this space for more info over the coming weeks and month!

Alternatively pop your head around the side door of Matthews Hall whenever you hear the clunk of the ball!
